Sometimes we just need something to snack on after a sweaty workout session to hold us over until our next meal. It can be easy to grab something unhealthy after a workout because you “deserve it”. And while it’s always nice to reward yourself, it’s easy to fall into that bad habit. It also doesn’t help you if you’re trying to lose weight.
If you’re looking for quick and easy post workout snack ideas, here are 4 snacks you should eat that are low calorie!
A small apple + peanut butter
An apple with some peanut butter will for sure hold you over until your meal. Apples are good sources of fiber, which will leave you feeling full longer resulting in eating less calories. And we all know that peanut butter is a good source of protein. Just be mindful that peanut butter can be high in calories depending on the serving size. We recommend a tablespoon!
Baby carrots + hummus
Carrots are naturally low in calories and are a source of many essential vitamins. Some of these vitamins even help improve your metabolism, which can lead to your body burning fat. Hummus also has essential vitamins your body needs and provides you with the healthy fats you need. Plus, it’s low in calories.
1 quarter cup of nuts
Nuts are a great post workout snack. They’re high in protein and healthy fats that your body needs for a healthy heart. However, be careful with how much you consume as you can easily pack on the calories with nuts if you’re not careful.
1 cup nonfat plain greek yogurt + fresh toppings
Greek yogurt is a popular food for weight loss. Also, it’s high in protein and provide a lot of other health benefits. Make sure you get plain greek yogurt though as flavored ones tend to be higher in calories and in sugar. Top it with fresh toppings like fruit and a dash of honey.
