If you’re like me, we get hungry when we’re out and about and have a tendency to reach for the nearest thing. That nearest thing sometimes ends up being fries from a fast food place or even a muffin from Starbucks. While that’s fine every once in awhile, it can turn into an unhealthy habit. To combat this, I’ve tried throwing a few healthy snacks in my bag whenever I’m traveling or on the go. And since I’m currently in Greece, you KNOW I for sure have these healthy snacks on me. Here are some of my usual “go to” snacks!
This is most likely everyone’s go to snack, but it’s a simple, healthy, classic snack! I usually like to make my own and separate it into small ziplock bags but you can also buy prepackaged ones. They’re high in protein and help hold you over until your next meal. Just be careful though, sometimes they’re high in calories (which is fine if you’re trying to put on weight), but especially be aware of the sugar content.
Turkey Roll Ups
You most likely will have to make these at home, but they’re the perfect high protein, low carb snack. Take some veggies and cheese (if you want) and roll them up in a slice of turkey. Make a few of these bad boys, throw them in a ziplock, and you’re good to go!
Hummus & Peanut Butter
Obviously don’t put these in a bag together! But these are always good have on you along with some sliced fruits or veggies. You can dip just about anything in them. Hummus is low in calories and ALWAYS yummy, while peanut butter is a good source of protein and healthy fats. These will definitely help you curve any type of hunger and keep you going on your travels.
Simple. You buy a box from the store and you throw one in your bag. I always have one on me and another one or two if I know I’m going to be out all day and won’t have time to eat a meal. I try to avoid ones made with high fructose corn syrup though. Just be mindful of the amount of sugar in them and what kind of sugar is used.
I usually like to make these for breakfast with the protein powder, fresh fruit, some greens, almond milk, and peanut butter. But that’s kind of hard to do that and keep it fresh when you’re traveling. So when I am travelling, I usually throw protein powder, a mixed greens powder (sometimes), and water into a blender bottle, give it a hard shake, and go! Easy boost of energy and protein that will hold me over till lunch or dinner.
ALWAYS try and have snacks on you if you know you’re not going to have time to eat a full meal. Not eating can do more harm than good. Stay happy and stay healthy!
