Everyone has those days. Work can be too much. School can be too much. LIFE can be too much. Stress deeply affects how we feel physically and mentally. It can even affect us even more if we don’t find the time to relax and defog our minds and bodies. Ideally, I like to have a whole weekend to relax but sometimes that’s just not possible. Instead though, I try and find at least 30 minutes everyday to take a break from whatever it is I’m doing. So, here are some things that I like to do when it comes to giving myself a break from the world!
Not everyone likes to use exercise to destress, but it does WONDERS for me. Whether it’s a quick workout session or a jog through the park, exercising really helps me clear my mind and relieves me of my stress. I really enjoy hiking the most though. I get to clear my mind and experience the beauty of nature while ALSO keeping myself physically healthy! It’s really a win-win situation for me, or anybody really for that matter!
Listen to music
If there’s something that’s always keeping me going, it’s music. Sometimes I just like to lay in bed and put my headphones in and just close my eyes. Other times I like to sit outside and have a speaker nearby with my music playing. You know how the saying goes, “music in, world out”. That’s definitely what it feels like sometimes.
Spend time with family and friends
There’s nothing that makes me feel better than my family and friends. If I’m not able to hang out with them, I can always give them a call. These usually end up being HOURS sometimes but it’s nice to catch up or just talk about what’s been going on in each other’s lives. It’s also nice to get some advice sometimes and hear the things I’ve just been needing to hear for myself.
You might’ve read my blog post from a bit ago about meditating to relieve anxiety. Meditating really, REALLY helps me get in tune with myself and clears my mind. I always feel better after a session of meditating. Sometimes I even just fall asleep! It’s a really good way to start your day off. And it’s also a great way to decompress after a long day! If you haven’t tried meditation before I really recommend it.
Because nothing says relaxation like a hot bubble bath… It’s probably my favorite way to destress!! Throw in some bubbles, maybe a bath bomb, turn some music on, light a few candles, and I’m set. Sometimes I’ll even put a face mask on for a full spa day at home. It’s nice to come out afterwards feeling fresh and clean and then hop into bed right after. Truly my perfect way of ending a day.
